Innovative Solutions for Climate Resilience in the Mediterranean
Addressing climate change-related health risks with evidence-based tools and collaborative action to safeguard communities and ecosystems.
About the Project
The ISMED-CLIM project addresses the health challenges posed by climate change in the Mediterranean, a region facing rising temperatures, air pollution, and extreme weather. Vulnerable groups, such as outdoor workers and older adults, are at significant risk, making targeted solutions essential.
Through five Living Labs in eight Mediterranean sites, ISMED-CLIM tests early warning tools and health interventions. These efforts aim to reduce climate-related health risks and strengthen healthcare systems’ resilience.
- Informing stakeholders
- Enhancing scientific evidence
- Utilizing vector disease models
- Improving healthcare system resilience
- Replicating effective systems
Living Labs (LLs)
The ISMED-CLIM Living Labs serve as dynamic environments to test and refine innovative solutions aimed at mitigating climate-related health risks and enhancing the resilience of vulnerable populations and healthcare systems across the Mediterranean.
Outdoor workers
Reducing exposure for those at high risk of heat-related illness
Pregnant women
Managing air and heat impacts on mothers and fetuses
Adults with Hypertension
Monitoring heat’s impact on cardiovascular health
Zoonotic Diseas
Protecting high-risk professionals from vector-borne diseases
Healthcare System Toolkit
Building a healthcare model for Mediterranean hospitals
Technology & Tools
ISMED-CLIM leverages advanced technology and tools, including AI-driven early warning systems, personalized risk assessment platforms, and digital dashboards, to enhance climate resilience and support informed decision-making for health and environmental challenges across the Mediterranean.

AI-Augmented Early Warning and Response System (EWRS)
Provides real-time predictions for heat exposure, air pollution, and vector-borne disease risks using advanced AI models and thermal stress indices like UTCI.

Citizen Mobile App
Offers personalized alerts and mitigation recommendations, integrating wearable sensors for real-time exposure and health monitoring, and delivering user-friendly access to risk assessments.

Policy Dashboard
Serves as an interactive platform for climate-health data visualization, policy recommendations, and evidence-based decision-making.

Digital Knowledge Platform
Acts as a centralized repository for data from Living Labs, including health outcomes, exposure assessments, and forecasting models, enabling knowledge sharing and integration with EU platforms like Climate-ADAPT.

Integrated Surveillance Tools
Combine climate, environmental, and vector population data to predict zoonotic disease risks and support preventive strategies.

Living Labs Management Portal
Facilitates coordination, data collection, and evaluation of interventions across demonstration sites, ensuring insights for scalability and replication.
