Americares

The Americares is a global non-profit organization dedicated to improving health outcomes for people affected by poverty, disasters, and crises. Founded in 1979 and headquartered in the United States, Americares operates worldwide, delivering medical aid, health services, and emergency response support in more than 80 countries. The organization is recognized as one of the leading providers of donated medicines and medical supplies globally, supporting hospitals, clinics, and community health systems. Its work focuses on disaster response, health system strengthening, access to medicines, and disease prevention, helping communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from crises.

Role in the Project

Within the ISMED-CLIM project, Americares contributes expertise in health system resilience, disaster preparedness, and climate adaptation.

The organization is involved in activities related to strengthening healthcare system preparedness for climate-related risks, particularly through its experience in emergency response and community-based health programmes. Americares contributes to the adaptation and validation of tools and methodologies aimed at improving healthcare system resilience, including support to Living Lab activities focused on healthcare services.

Through its global experience and operational expertise, Americares helps ensure that project solutions are practical, scalable, and aligned with real-world healthcare and emergency response needs.
