Portuguese Association of Veterinary Specialists in Companion Animals (APMVEAC)
The Associação Portuguesa de Médicos Veterinários Especialistas em Animais de Companhia (APMVEAC) is a professional non-profit organization that brings together veterinary specialists dedicated to the health and welfare of companion animals in Portugal. The association promotes high standards in veterinary practice through professional development, scientific exchange, and collaboration among veterinarians working in clinical practice, research, and education.
APMVEAC actively contributes to the advancement of veterinary medicine by organizing training activities, professional events, and knowledge-sharing initiatives, while also supporting research and awareness related to animal health, zoonotic diseases, and One Health approaches linking animal, human, and environmental health.
Role in the Project
Within the ISMED-CLIM project, APMVEAC contributes expertise related to animal health and zoonotic disease prevention within the One Health framework.
The association supports the engagement of veterinary professionals and contributes to activities focused on the monitoring and prevention of climate-sensitive vector-borne diseases affecting animals and humans. In particular, APMVEAC participates in Living Lab activities involving veterinarians, dog owners, and animal shelters, supporting the testing and validation of early warning systems and prevention strategies aimed at reducing the risks of zoonotic diseases linked to climate change.
Through its professional network and expertise in veterinary medicine, APMVEAC helps ensure that the project’s solutions incorporate the animal health dimension and support integrated approaches to climate and health resilience.
