Spanish National Research Council (CSIC)
The Spanish National Research Council (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas – CSIC) is the largest public research organization in Spain and one of the leading scientific institutions in Europe. Founded in 1939, CSIC operates a wide network of research institutes across Spain and conducts multidisciplinary research covering natural sciences, engineering, environmental sciences, biomedicine, and social sciences.
CSIC plays a major role in advancing scientific knowledge and technological innovation, contributing to national and international research initiatives and collaborating extensively with universities, research centres, and industry partners. Its research activities address major global challenges, including climate change, environmental sustainability, health, and biodiversity.
Role in the Project
Within the ISMED-CLIM project, CSIC contributes expertise in environmental science, climate research, and modelling of environmental health risks.
The institution supports research activities aimed at understanding the relationships between climate change, environmental conditions, and health outcomes in Mediterranean regions. CSIC contributes to the analysis of environmental data and climate-related stressors, helping to improve the scientific understanding of how climate change influences disease risks and human health.
Through its research capacity and scientific expertise, CSIC contributes to strengthening the evidence base for the development of early warning systems, climate risk assessments, and policy recommendations aimed at improving climate resilience across Mediterranean societies.
