Technologies and Tools
ISMED-CLIM employs six advanced technologies and tools to address climate-related health challenges across the Mediterranean region. These solutions integrate real-time data, AI-driven insights, and user-friendly platforms to empower individuals, healthcare providers, and policymakers in mitigating climate impacts on public health.
AI-Augmented Early Warning and Response System (EWRS)
The EWRS provides real-time predictions for heat exposure, air pollution, and vector-borne disease risks. Using advanced AI models and thermal stress indices like UTCI, it delivers precise forecasts to help individuals and healthcare systems prepare for and respond to environmental risks. This system ensures timely actions to minimize health impacts and supports decision-making for better resource allocation during critical events.
Citizen Mobile App
This app offers personalized alerts and recommendations to mitigate exposure to climate-related health risks. Integrated with wearable sensors, it tracks real-time exposure and health metrics, providing users with accessible and practical tools to manage their health. The app’s intuitive interface ensures that even vulnerable populations can take informed steps to protect themselves from risks like heatwaves and air pollution.
Policy Dashboard
Designed to support policymakers, this dashboard combines health and climate data into an interactive platform. It provides visual insights, risk assessments, and policy recommendations, enabling evidence-based decision-making. Policymakers can use this tool to monitor trends, evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, and design targeted strategies for public health resilience.
Digital Knowledge Platform
Acting as a centralized repository, the platform aggregates data from Living Labs, including health outcomes, exposure assessments, and forecasting models. It promotes knowledge sharing among stakeholders and integrates with EU platforms like Climate-ADAPT, ensuring that the findings and tools developed in ISMED-CLIM are accessible and widely applicable.
Integrated Surveillance Tools
These tools combine climate, environmental, and vector population data to predict risks from zoonotic diseases. By providing detailed forecasts and maps, they support early detection and prevention strategies. This system ensures that health authorities can respond quickly to emerging threats, reducing the risk of outbreaks and their associated impacts on communities.
Living Labs Management Portal
The portal facilitates the coordination and evaluation of interventions across demonstration sites. By enabling efficient data collection and analysis, it provides valuable insights into the scalability and replication of successful solutions. This tool ensures that the project’s innovations are adaptable to various contexts and can be implemented across the Mediterranean region and beyond.
How These Tools Work Together
The technologies and tools in ISMED-CLIM are interconnected, creating a robust ecosystem to address climate-health challenges:
- The EWRS provides the core predictions and alerts, which are disseminated through the Citizen Mobile App and leveraged by the Policy Dashboard.
- The Integrated Surveillance Tools monitor disease risks, complementing the EWRS in addressing climate-induced health hazards.
- The Digital Knowledge Platform ensures that insights and lessons from Living Labs are accessible to a wide audience.
- The Living Labs Management Portal ensures effective collaboration, coordination, and scalability of interventions across the region.
Impact of Technology and Tools
These tools collectively enhance the capacity of individuals, healthcare systems, and policymakers to anticipate, respond to, and mitigate the health impacts of climate change. By combining real-time data, predictive analytics, and user-friendly interfaces, ISMED-CLIM ensures that its solutions are practical, scalable, and impactful for the Mediterranean and beyond.
