University of Aveiro

The University of Aveiro (UA) is a leading Portuguese research university known for its strong expertise in environmental sciences, climate research, and atmospheric modelling. The university actively participates in European and international research initiatives addressing major environmental and societal challenges.

Within UA, research related to climate and environmental systems is conducted through the Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM), an Associated Laboratory recognised for its excellence in environmental research. CESAM develops multidisciplinary research on atmospheric processes, air quality, climate change, ecosystem dynamics, and environmental sustainability. The research group involved in ISMED-CLIM has extensive experience in modelling air pollution exposure, atmospheric emissions, and climate change impacts, and has participated in numerous European research projects in these fields.

Role in the Project

Within the ISMED-CLIM project, the University of Aveiro contributes expertise in air pollution exposure assessment, atmospheric modelling, and climate change analysis.

The university participates in research activities within Work Package 1 and Work Package 2, supporting the analysis of environmental data and modelling the interactions between climate change, air pollution, and health risks in Mediterranean regions. In addition, UA contributes to the implementation of the Portuguese Living Lab in the municipality of Águeda, supporting the testing and evaluation of climate-health solutions in real-world settings.

Through its expertise in atmospheric science and environmental modelling, the University of Aveiro helps strengthen the scientific understanding of climate-related environmental exposures and their impacts on public health.
