University of León
The University of León (ULE) is a public higher education and research institution located in León, Spain. The university is actively engaged in national and international research initiatives and has a strong commitment to participation in competitive R&D programmes, including European research projects.
Within ULE, the VALFIS Research Group has more than 15 years of experience in studying the physiological effects of heat exposure, particularly in occupational and sports environments. The group conducts both field and laboratory research focusing on thermophysiological responses, heat stress, and human performance under extreme environmental conditions. Through this expertise, ULE contributes to advancing research on climate-related health risks and adaptation strategies for vulnerable populations.
Role in the Project
Within the ISMED-CLIM project, the University of León contributes to the implementation of Living Lab 1 (LL1) activities focusing on outdoor workers, one of the population groups most vulnerable to climate-related health risks.
Leveraging the expertise of the VALFIS Research Group, ULE supports the design and execution of field studies assessing the effectiveness of recommendations and interventions aimed at reducing exposure to extreme heat and air pollution. These Living Lab activities evaluate the impact of early warning systems, behavioural guidance, and technological monitoring tools on reducing health risks and improving occupational safety for workers exposed to high temperatures.
Through these activities, ULE contributes to generating scientific evidence that supports the development of climate adaptation strategies and policies aimed at protecting vulnerable workers across Mediterranean regions.
